Overseas Registration Exam (ORE)

The Eastman runs short revision courses for those dentists wishing to complete the ORE. Check the Courses Diary for Part 1 and Part 2 course dates. To book a place please complete and return the relevant application form (see links on the right-hand side of this webpage) along with your payment to the CPD Administration Team (see contact details the right-hand side of this webpage). Lunch and refreshments are provided on all ORE revision courses.

ORE examination details may be obtained from the General Dental Council.

Please note that we do not teach treatment planning or OSCE at this institution.

ORE Part 1: Human Diseases 5 Day Revision Course

We currently offer a 5 day revision course in preparation for the ORE Part 1 examination. Over the five days topics that form a significant part of the ORE Part 1 examination include:

  • Cross Infection
  • Emergencies
  • Facial anatomy revision
  • Human diseases applied to the dental setting
  • Oral Medicine
  • Oral Surgery
  • Radiology

This course is designed to revise the important aspects of the ORE syllabus on these topics which impact on the practice of dentistry within a UK environment.

The faculty are well aware of the needs of candidates sitting this examination and the course will focus on common diseases and the impact on the dentist which are frequently tested.

The course fee is £679.

The course attracts 32.5 hours of verifiable CPD.

This lecture based course starts on Monday 14th December 2009 and will run for 5 consecutive days.

ORE Part 2 Manikin Revision Courses

For all the revision days, the relevant parts of the Manikin Guidance given in the General Dental Council’s Information on the Part 2 Examination will be followed as closely as possible within the constraints of time and facilities available. The exercises will be supplemented with demonstrations by the tutors where appropriate.

Day 1: Plastics
Amalgam exercise: Class II upper posterior tooth.
Composite exercise: Class III in an upper anterior tooth.
Composite exercise: Class V buccal or palatal in an upper tooth.
Rubber dam exercise: Isolation of anterior teeth ready for a composite restoration.

Day 2: Crowns and Veneers
Full gold crown preparation on a posterior tooth.
Metal ceramic crown preparation on anterior and posterior teeth.
Ceramic labial veneer preparation on an upper anterior tooth.
Temporary crown fabrication on a prepared tooth.

Day 3: Endodontics
Lecture on the rationale of root canal treatment.
Root canal instrumentation and obturation of a single rooted central incisor.
Please note that for the endodontics day you will need to bring 2 extracted single rooted teeth with you

The course fee for the 3 day course is £975. The course attracts 19.5 hours of verifiable CPD.

Practice Day:
The Practice Day gives the opportunity to hone and refine skills in achieving a good result in all the practical exercises carried out in Days 1 – 3 of the ORE Part 2, 3 day Dental Manikin Revision course. Tutors will be on hand to comment, advise and discuss points on each individual’s work.

The course fee is £380. The course attracts 6 hours of verifiable CPD.

Please note that students are unable to bring their own teeth or jaws to work on, as all materials and equipment are provided, apart from on the Endodontics day where students will be asked to bring 2 single rooted natural teeth to work on.

ORE Part 2: Medical Emergencies

At the Eastman we offer a full day ORE Part 2 Medical Emergencies course. This course is the equivalent of 6 verifiable CPD hours and will cover all aspects of Medical Emergencies required for ORE Candidates. This day is run by external lecturers and costs £193 for the day.
